If you're looking for loyalty to the state, you won't find it in Northern California's Siskiyou County. In fact, they're the latest county to become so pissed off at state government, they've filed a petition to secede from California and become their own state, which they plan to call "Jefferson".
The citizens of Siskiyou claim their concerns have been ignored by lawmakers in favor of more populus counties in the southern part of the state. As a result, they want to take their ball and go home...or rather make a new home - their own state.
Unfortunately for the disgruntled people of Siskiyou, their 4 - 1 vote to secede at the county level may just be a symboloc gesture as approval to become their own state requires a nod by the state legislature and the U.S Congress.
We doubt they'll get that, or if you'll see Siskiyou County California in one of those fancy commercials inviting you to "visit California".
