Washington DC police have identified the man who set himself on fire and ultimately died last week at the National Mall.
The man is 64 year old John Constantino of Mount Laurel, New Jersey. He suffered significant burns over his entire body and died at a local hospital, shortly after setting himself ablaze. Constantino doused himself in gasoline using a red canister then set himself on fire last Friday afternoon near the National Air and Space Museum.
It was thought initially that Mr. Constantino was a homeless person, but property record say he held a residence which he was living at prior to his death. Phone calls to the home went unanswered. It is still not known why he committed suicide in this fashion or at the location.
